Thinking Money for Kids Online

Client: American Library Association, FINRA

To take their traveling financial literacy exhibit and move it online, the American Library Association in partnership with FINRA turned to FableVision to create four online interactives. The Thinking Money for Kids initiative creates an easy on-ramp and provides children with access to financial literacy education.

The first interactive, Earning It, features a narrative animation that delves into various career paths and their accompanying salaries in connection with education levels. Players are introduced to Grace, Emma, and Kenji and watch as each character cultivates their interest over time, participates in different activities, and pursues different education to reach their career goals. In Balance My Budget, players are given a $300 budget as well as a number of needs that they must spend money to attain. They must balance saving for future events and spending their money on items they want in the moment. Money Trail is a linear game that teaches cause and effect through a virtual board game, where players make one of two financial decisions at each space and then see how their choice impacts their budget. Let’s Deal explores the essential attributes of money using an animated video and accompanying interactive. The animation explains money’s benefits over bartering through the experiences of Jaden at the farmer’s market as he unsuccessfully attempts to trade firewood for various items.
