Reach Every Reader Apps

Client: Harvard Graduate School of Education

For the early research phases of Reach Every Reader, a five-year initiative out of the Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE), FableVision developed three literacy learning apps with two moving forward for public launch and deployment: Photo Play and Animal Antics. These engaging and educational games are made for parents to play with their 2-4-year-old children. The apps build on Reach Every Reader’s goals of improving learning and life chances for all children by promoting high-level, equitable literacy achievement through early assessment, detection, and intervention.

In Animal Antics, adults and children role-play as different animal characters engaged in back and forth conversation based on their choice of different, real-life scenarios. Players choose the expression and mood their character wears and record their own voice, building the story in response to the chosen scenario prompt.

Photo Play allows children and parents to decorate and interact with their existing personal photos to facilitate unique conversations about memories, locations, and more. There is also a hide-and-seek game, where parents can hide a sticker in the photo while the child must figure out its location by asking questions.
