For this week's Throwback Thursday, we're going into the vault to get pumped for the upcoming Sochi 2014 Olympics. I love the Olympics and yes, I’ve been counting down the days to the Sochi Opening Ceremony. I can't help it. I've watched the Olympics as a kid, and I remember marveling at the beauty of the Opening Ceremony. So to get ready for the big games, I’ve been playing our Olympic-themed Classic in the Jurassic, Jr. games, made with PBS Kids and the Jim Henson Company in 2013. I personally love all the cheering in the Opening Ceremony game. No matter your favorite sport to watch, these online games have something for everyone.

The Olympics-themed games suite for Classic in the Jurassic, Jr. is part of a transmedia experience connected to the Classic in the Jurassic episodes of the Dinosaur Train television show.  Funded through a Ready to Learn Grant, all the games in the suite have a math focus, and connect directly to the skills in the PBS Math Curriculum Framework. The Olympics theme allowed FableVision to bring dinosaurs from different time periods together in Troodon Town.

In the Opening Ceremony players meet the dinosaurs, and learn their identifying features and what they eat. In Pinecone Pass, the Claw Stars and Prehistoric Predators duke it out as the dinosaurs measure distance and toss pinecones to their teammates. Air Show features some “high-flying action” as dinosaurs compete in distance flying. In Roarin’ Relay, choose the dinosaur that can fit over and under obstacles on the relay course. Differently sized dinosaurs explore volume in Dinosaur Dive by jumping into pools. Weigh down a leafy rope with heavy dinosaurs far enough for a snack in Leaf Leader. Put water in an eggshell at Hydration Station, and then let the dinosaurs take a drink.

Let the games begin!
