Cyber Fashion Challenge

Client: WNET, Bridge multimedia

Following the success of multiple Cyberchase born-accessible math and science learning games, The WNET Group, PBS KIDS, and Bridge Multimedia have again collaborated with FableVision for their latest accessible game, this time about upcycling. Based on Cyberchase’s season 13 episode “Sustainable By Design,” Cyber Fashion Challenge teaches 6-8-year-old kids about avoiding fast fashion and encouraging the creative reuse of materials.

Players decide what item of clothing to create, choose which secondhand pieces to reuse, and design their new clothing. To help players learn math concepts like counting, shape identification, and shape characteristics, the game prompts players to use specific numbers and shapes of fabric, which become more sophisticated as players level up. They’re rewarded with a fashion show featuring Cyberchase characters modeling their newly-designed inventions.

Cyber Fashion Challenge contains accessibility features baked into the game design so that the experience can be customized for each individual’s needs and sensitivities. An accessibility panel allows players to adjust their display, sound, caption, gameplay, and game controls settings, with over 14 features that can be modified. Among others, the game contains audio descriptions, fun music, and sound effects so the audio is just as strong as the visuals. Keyboard controls allow children who cannot see to play the entire game and dwell activation settings let children play using head or eye tracking devices.

The game is available on the PBS KIDS website and mobile app.
