What does a day in the studio look like for you?: My day usually starts with a check-in with my supervisor, Christina (she’s so cool), where we go over my progress on my intern project. After that, I start working independently on the project, which has been really exciting because I get a lot of creative freedom.
I enjoy attending weekly intern lectures where someone from a different department shares their work process. It’s been really cool getting a behind-the-scenes look at the entire production process and being able to ask questions directly. I usually end my day by shadowing a meeting for a super fun resource-trading game, which gives me a glimpse into how real projects are discussed and developed. I also really enjoy our lunch breaks! We all eat together in the office, and when the weather’s nice, we sit outside. It’s a great show of camaraderie.
What is the coolest thing you’ve learned since starting at FableVision?: Honestly, where do I even start? This experience has been such a fun learning curve. I learned how to use Adobe Animate and, more importantly, how to prepare assets there in a way that makes them easy to bring into Unity.
Beyond the technical side, the biggest thing I’ve learned is how much thought goes into designing a game. Somewhere along the way I realized… wait, I actually really enjoy designing for games. So much so that I’m now planning to take a class on the cognition of games next semester at my school! Working independently on my own project also pushed me to think more intentionally about time management, design choices, and how everything connects from the initial idea all the way to execution.
Fun Fact: As a kid, I once managed to get a small styrofoam ball stuck in my ear which somehow turned into an emergency room visit and an immediate surgery.
