Boston's Mayor Thomas M. Menino, with Boston Public Schools, the Boston Public Library, and FableVision Studios, is enlisting the help of the Boston community in spreading the word about the Live Wire Community Learning Initiative through the 1st Annual Digital Storytelling Contest. The Live Wire Community Learning Initiative is designed to inspire creativity, improve student motivation, boost 21st Century skills, and put learning at the heart of the community by providing a common set of tools to schools, libraries, community centers, and homes.The Live Wire Digital Storytelling Contest aims to promote digital media literacy among Boston youth while celebrating the project's "community learning" mission. How and where does learning happen in your community? What inspires you to learn? Share your inspiration with Live Wire using live action video, animation, or a digital photo story for a chance to win amazing prizes! Entries will be judged by a celebrity panel and showcased at Boston R.O.C.K It!!! at The Strand Theatre on February 23rd.
Prizes made possible through generous philanthropic and corporate support from Wacom and FableVision Learning include Flip Video digital cameras, Apple iPod Touches, $100 gift cards, and signed copies of the New York Times best-selling author/illustrator Peter H. Reynolds' "Inspiration Collection" Book Bundle (The North Star, The Dot, and Ish). The Grand Prize Package, a Mobile Digital Storytelling Workstation, will include an Apple Macbook laptop computer with iLife software suite (iPhoto, iWeb, iMovie, GarageBand, and iDVD!), a Wacom Bamboo digital drawing tablet, a Flip Digital Video Camera, and Animation-ish animation software from FableVision Learning!
