Solar Storm Watcher
Client: University Corporation for Atmospheric Research

You receive an urgent report: a solar storm is fast approaching with the capacity to impact human life on Earth. How you respond will affect many, what will you do to mitigate damage?
UCAR Solar Storm Watcher takes players through a simulated emergency response to a solar flare or coronal mass ejection (CME) involving fictionalized versions of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the International Space Station, the United States’ power grid and government, and the Federal Aviation Administration. Each organization serves as a round of play, in which the user has to analyze the information presented and make the correct preventative decisions in three turns or fewer.
Players begin by measuring the size of the storm to correctly identify its level by comparing it to images provided by NOAA. The level of the storm’s severity will determine how many organizations will be affected, and the types of decisions required to limit the storm’s impact.
