Ruckus!
Client: Revolutionary Spaces
Go back in time and immerse yourself in the world of the American Revolution for the semiquincentennial anniversary of the United States! Revolutionary Spaces, a nonprofit organization that manages the Old State House and Old South Meeting House in Boston, collaborated with production partners RLMG and FableVision to create “Ruckus!”“Ruckus!” is a 25-minute animated immersive exhibit about important events of the American Revolution projected on a three-stories-tall wall in the Old South Meeting House. Significant events that transformed America occur all around viewers in the exact place where they happened, making this a truly unique and riveting experience.
Meet Jeremy, a teenage rat working as a janitor at the Old South Meeting House. While sweeping the dust away from a portrait of his Aunt Agatha, who used to be the caretaker of the space, he causes her to sneeze. What happens next is an eruption of lights and sounds as the whole room goes back in time to 1765. The walls of the Old South Meeting House come to life in a spectacular display of animation as the rats witness the most important events of the American Revolution, and meet the people that helped America gain independence from England. Throughout this 25-minute experience, Jeremy brings a modern perspective to these historical events, and Agatha provides context to how people of different walks of life took part in the Revolution.
RLMG led the production process by writing the script for “Ruckus!,” creating the human portrait animations, and designing concept drawings that FableVision used to create the fully-realized character designs and animation for the rats and talking horses. RLMG partners Available Light and Electrosonic incorporated projection mapping, transparent OLED screens, sound, and lights to the animation at the Old South Meeting House to provide a fully immersive experience.
