Project AMI
Client: mAX Kohler Foundation

Museums are reimagining how visitors interact with art and education. Created in partnership with the Max Kohler Foundation in Zurich, Project AMI’s (Art + Museums Interacting) goal is to embolden, connect, and empower museum professionals and visitors who want to explore new possibilities of larger, successful museum programs.
Eight museum partners across the US and Switzerland: The Rietberg Museum, The Beyeler Foundation, Creaviva in association with the Paul Klee Museum, SFMOMA, The Swiss National Museum, The Aargauer Kunsthaus, Kunstmuseum St Gallen and The MoMA, have developed, tested, and documented 20 original interactive and game-based prototypes for art and history education in the project’s two-year run. Project AMI challenged museum professionals and visitors to create game-based prototypes that make art education engaging and accessible, and set up a site for the community to share those prototypes and learnings.
All 20 prototypes are shared with museum staff and community to foster institutional collaboration, push the boundaries of museum interactivity, and reduce time spent on research and development for institutions. The open-source interactives range from language-learning digital games, to scavenger hunts, physical installations, web interactives, and more.
