Boston, MA – FableVision, the award-winning, educational multimedia company headquartered in Boston, will join The Jim Henson Company and PBS KIDS in debuting the all-new CGI-animated series, “Dinosaur Train,” in fall 2009. FableVision will create a robust, interactive web experience to enhance the series, which embraces and celebrates the fascination that preschoolers have with both dinosaurs and trains while introducing themes in natural science, natural history, and paleontology.
The “Dinosaur Train” website will supplement and expand the TV series, inviting kids to enter the dinosaur world for more exploration, discovery, and application. FableVision will also provide extension activities and resources on PBS Parents and PBS Teachers, which will allow for amplification of the show’s curriculum themes.
FableVision and Henson previously partnered for the CGI-animated, PBS KIDS series “Sid the Science Kid,” which stars a pint-sized, aspiring scientist/comedian and his group of inquisitive friends. In bringing “Sid’s” online world to life, FableVision wove science curriculum into storytelling, music, and hands-on gaming.
“We’re thrilled to reunite with our kindred spirits at The Jim Henson Company,’” says Gary Goldberger, FableVision’s Executive Vice President and Executive Producer of the “Dino Train” website. “We know that our shared mission to pique kids’ natural curiosity about the world using storytelling and irresistible characters will enable us to create a unique, immersive website that will hopefully spark a lifelong interest in scientific inquiry and exploration.”
Created by Craig Bartlett ("Hey Arnold!"), “Dinosaur Train” is seen through the eyes of Buddy, a preschool-aged Tyrannosaurus Rex. Buddy and his adoptive family of Pteranodons go for adventures on the Dinosaur Train to meet all kinds of dinosaurs in different eras and learn fascinating new facts about these prehistoric giants.
FableVision President and Co-founder Paul Reynolds notes the “big picture” significance of science-themed shows aimed at young viewers, given the national gap in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) performance. “We have to face our country’s STEM crisis on multiple fronts, using every ounce of innovation and creativity we can muster,” he says. “Bringing together the inventive minds at Henson, PBS, and FableVision to develop a transmedia experience that captures kids’ imaginations at a young age, before they are turned off of math and science, is a critical part of that solution.”
