Tami Wicinas was born and grew up in Berkeley, CA. She began drawing as soon as she was able to hold a crayon. With a love of reading, she filled her imagination with stories and characters which became fuel for her art. After a childhood of dreaming that she would grow up to be an artist, a youth spent carrying her sketchbook everywhere, covering canvas with paint and devouring figure drawing classes, she left sunny California far behind to follow her dream and attend the Rhode Island School of Design.
Tami's greatest passion is in the visual narrative, so naturally she chose Illustration for her major. After earning her BFA, she moved to Boston, found a home at FableVision, and continues to pursue the art of communicating story and stirring emotion through the power of design, color, and imagery.
Aside from drawing, Tami loves listening to music and rarely works in silence. Very occasionally, she dusts off her violin. She enjoys good food and still loves to read, especially dark moody tales from long ago, and keeps a growing collection of Victorian paraphernalia.
Among her favorite artists are Alphonse Mucha, Maxfield Parrish and John Singer Sargent. She also likes to draw inspiration from film and animation, particularly those made by Japanese animation legend Hayao Miyazaki.
She has a fondness for Japan and has been there many times to reconnect with her roots and visit family. She wishes to one day become fluent in Japanese.
Tami has recently developed and interest in manga and comics. In the past year, she has dedicated her free time to writing and illustrating her first graphic novel Wooden Rose, which is online at www.woodenrosecomic.com
